artist: Mental Escape Pod
title: Crazy
keywords: experimental ambient dark ambient noise drone harsh noise noise Rankweil

Mental Escape Pod slowly but surely introduces a new deep dimension into all who wants to listen. A holy drone of ambient becomes pleasantly their way, like a treasure from long forgotten times somewhere hidden in a mysterious cave of audio wisdom. This is ‘Der Riss’ , a calm but solid audio exposure that in a warm coldness sneakily slips listeners away it it’s slippery depth.

Once there this strange realm really starts to showcase itself. The artist uses shock effects based on timing and playing with volume of the sounds to create something of an grotesque movie of darkness in atmosphere. To me ‘Echos’ is there to build up the tension of this mysterious underground atmosphere that isn’t clear if it’s a place to be safe, or a environment that might be a danger.

‘Drowning’ is perhaps a good hint as a title for a work that might be dangerous for its listener. But dangerous listening material or not, the thrill of the unknown, the strange rhythmic organic (almost orchestral) music that has a paranoid-making vibe is something that gets your heart shivering in its body suit.

The feeling of panic might be coming over when the next thrilling work named ‘Maisäß’ unfolds itself. This is a psychotic cinematic work in which you could be greater by female mental hospital inhabitants who had clearly took over the asylum and now strategically roam around for some fresh blood. You can hear them in the corners as listeners try to escape on escalating ambient slides that seem to give a certain light to the whole situation.

As the final end of this audio trip Mental Escape Pod comes up with ‘A Legend’. Here the psychological audio thriller goes for strange hissing darkness, making me think of poisonous snakes doing some kind of mating dance around unlucky listeners their legs. There is a depth to it that gives a feeling of no way out, the snake pit’s bottom is what the music had became; and survival is only left to the few with lesser imagination.
